Has anyone tried hypnotherapy for T? I've not heard anything about it, but it seems like it might be worth trying.

I am also keen to find out if hypnotherapy is a goer .I know this 98 year old lady who is adamant that a hypnotist cured her sister's tinnitus just like that .She keeps pestering me to go to a hypnotist for treatment but I am very cautious. I also don't know how to determine if the hypnotist is bona fide or a con artist
Hypno"therapy" is a therapy tool, not a cure.
I'm a Hypnotherapist. I'm a member of the Complementary Natural Healthcare Council (CNCH). I'm in touch with a lot of people in my profession. As Tinnitus is so difficult to treat, Hypnotherapy is no exception. I've just helped someone with migraine and sleep issues successfully. Kevin Hogan has a positive approach to health as a definite goal worthy of determination. Kevin experienced tinnitus, and partly because of this, he treats those who suffer from it with respect!
If you're inclined you could see him on line for sessions. He's expensive but respected in this field of work. It takes time and you have to be prepared to put the work in.

I have had a few hypnotherapy sessions with 2 different hypnotherapists but it sadly hasn't improved mine. Part of hypnotherapy is about your willingness, belief and positivity towards it. My husband is currently training to be a hypnotherapist and is going to try again with me at some point.
It’s something that I’ve thought about because some days I think I’ll try ‘anything.However, I never get the feeling that this is backed fully by the medical profession.
Then I start to wonder if it is a real thing or not so much.
I would also be very interested to find out if there was any peer reviewed medical publications on this work.

Hypnosis is natural and safe . You go in and out several times a day. In hypnosis, you are accessing the subconscious part of your mind. Think of your mind like a ship. The captain is the conscious part and tells his/her crew what to do, believe, and behave. The Subconscious mind doesn't know the difference between real or imaginary. Think back when you went to see a scary movie, how did your body respond? Think back to when , or imagine, you are walking along a road or path in the dark and you feel like someone could be following you,. Then you turned around and it's an innocent person or postman/woman!!! How did your body respond?? Your Mind is very good at taking orders. Hypnotherapy is a vast subject. I've volunteered in a Hospice and it helped the patients and carers deal with anxiety and managing change and gaining confidence and self esteem. My mentor works in a London Hospital as a Hypnotherapist. NICE recognised endorse Hypnotherapy for IBS.

I had hypnotherapy 2 years ago related to anxiety and depression. I specifically asked the therapist (who is very experienced and trains other therapists) if she could help with my T but she advised against it in terms of a T-specific approach. The hypnotherapy was however helpful in relation to my general emotional wellbeing, which had a positive effect on the T at the time.

Graham, the British Tinnitus Association website shows what they think of hypno and from memory they do quote such research as has been done.
I have tried self-hypnosis in the past for pain: t's what I use when I cannot sleep. I read somewhere, years and years ago, what to do. Provided I am lying comfortably with no distractions I am able to remove pain. But only if it the pain is in one specific place (like, my toes for instance). Doesn't work if I've been gardening or had a long walk and I ache al over. Doesn't work on T either!!!
Hi, i had several session, but unfortunately didn't work for me, found it very expensive, which i wouldn't have minded if it worked, we are all looking for something that will help, not saying it won't work for you, also tried acupuncture, and most other things, good luck if you give it a try.
Hi I haven’t tried it but anything that eases stress/anxiety I should imagine will help so good luck & let us know how it goes please! Something I have found helps to ease my own T significantly is how hydrated I am, if I drink enough water in a day then my T seems to almost disappear?!
I have a T relaxation cd made for me by a very good Hypnotherapist - Jon Adkin - as has already been said in the comments, hypnotherapy is a tool, a way of managing, it is not a cure. Personally I found it really useful. Sometimes the T is being caused or made worse by other underlying issues - stress, anxiety etc - so by dealing with those the T will subside. Hope this helps
Hypnotherapy is not as straightforward as people might think, you have to be receptive to it for a start.
I have used it for 2 or 3 situations including T with reasonable success.
For T I connected with a a therapist who had T himself and whilst we did try to erase it we had more success with actually lowering the amount of focus that I pay to the noise so while it continues I am considerably less bothered by it. It becomes just part of my normal surroundings, something like traffic noise or birdsong.
it also fades on a regular basis so perhaps the other route works too.
Hypnotherapy is not an instant fix but with regular sessions the trance becomes easier (I can go out over zoom now) and so the work more productive.
