With the attention focussed on this global health crisis, does this mean that all other medical research has now been put on the back burner?

Good question. I would say not necessarily. Every medical expert/scientists have their own professional fields. Obviously this Covid-19 will be the priority however it doesn't tie into all medical expertise.

Unlikely, certain epidemiologists and scientists with relevant skills and experience will likely be retasked to look at Coronavirus.

Neurologists, ENT’s and others working on specific projects are likely to continue. No doubt there will be some disruption to roles. Much in the same as how everyone else is affected.
