Hi, I am 16, and I have Hyperacusis , I am not sure when I got it, but I reckon it was about 6 months ago, I used to listen to music a lot, 1-2 hours a day at least. I think the cause if my Hyperacusis is because of exposed to loud noise in a long time, my Hyperacusis was fine at the start, it wasent that bad, but now when I go on my phone, I don't even turn the volume up, not even 1%. I don't go cinemas or really anywhere, and school is starting soon, I am more scared because of school its going to get more sensitivity, I have been recent going gym with ear muffs for the past few days, I really love going to the gym, the question is should I be going gym? With ear plugs or not? I have recently bought a ear plug with a fliter 25db. I will also be going to a Hearing test soon, what can I do at the moment to not make my ears more sensitivity, what's my next step, please give me all tips and what I should do, also sometimes I feel like its a little worse in my left ear. I am also pretty sure I have no hearing loss and no Tinnitus!

Hello and welcome to the British Tinnitus Association forum. Do feel free to ask any questions, I hope that you find this a helpful and supportive place to help you manage your hyperacusis

We have some resources that you might like to check out in addition to our home here:

Helpline 0800 018 0527 (Monday-Friday 9am-5pm) (outside the UK you can call +44 (0)114 250 9922)

Ear plugs can make your hearing more sensitive, so it can be a question of getting used to a low level of sound and exposing yourself to noise gradually so that it is no longer a problem. However, this is best done working with an audiologist or a hearing therapist.

Warmest wishes
