Hi ,for months now I have had this heamopilus influenzae bug bringing up green mucus ,my sputum tests say Doxycycline will kill it ,in the past four months I have taken three courses of two weeks Doxycycline, they didn't get rid of it ,I am on Doxycycline agian now ,I new after nine days that it wasn't shifting it still coughing up loads of green mucus ,my doctor now has told me to double up Doxycycline to two 100 mg a day, that is taking 200mgs a day on third day of double dose no difference jet ,I'm exhausted with coughing, but no temperature, I have mild brochiecstas and copd ,I think it is the brochiecstas that is coursing it ,what ever can be done if the Doxycycline won't shift it when mucus sample test tells gp it's the antibiotic to kill it gp even showed it me on screen, help please

my respiratory consultant said that only an idiot carries on trying the same thing when it’s not working! Perhaps you could have another antibiotic with the doxy. Do you have a respiratory doctor you can ring his secretary or specialist nurses? Sounds like your GP is out of their depth. Good luck it’s so tiring having so many infections.

I had Haemophilus influenzae 1 year ago and was put on Amoxi/Clav ( generic for Augmentin) and it worked quickly and it stayed away.

I cultured the same and was so unwell, it took clarithromycin, doxycyclibe and amociclav to clear it, otherwise I was to be given iv drugs, ask for a change and increase in antibiotics dosage good luck
