Haemophilus influenza

Dr just rang to say haemophilus influenza still showing in sputum sample, thinks I might be colonised with it. Been on 2 weeks of amoxiclav and doxycycline 2 weeks previous, says maybe ivs are needed, any advice as I fly away for my 60th birthday party in 3 weeks 😭✈️

Right, I have had that but not with this antibiotic. It was just injected into the arm.

Once you are clear of the bug, a low regular prophylactic dose of Azithromycin may help keep it away.

Also ask your Consultant if you have been tested for Nontuberculous mycobacteria. This will not show up on normal screening samples.

I already take azithromycin 3 times weekly and have been free of HI for nearly 4 years, was given wrong antibiotics at the start of this infection so it's been on and off for 4 months, the joys of locum doctors 😕

I hope yr infection has cleared now.HIB can linger.i had hib pneumonia last yr& took 3mths to clear it x
