Can chest injuries from car crash cause bronch?

I had a bad car accident in 2013 and as a result developed a cough that has progressively worsened. After 4 and a half years I was finally diagnosed with idiopathic bilateral bronchiectasis.

Before the accident I had asthma which was under control, was very healthy, exercised a lot and had no issues. I had never had pneumonia etc or CF.

I read that some injuries can cause bronchiectasis. Has anyone else read the same thing?
