I understand there is no absolute answer to my question but how long does it take for a liver to start to recover after one stops drinking.

Hi there Bippet. Your right, of course, there is No absolute answer, I do know that thats not a good sign.. It really depends just how much damage you've done.., . Thats a lengthy period of time to have abused your liver, but everyone is different, as they say, so everyone's prognosis will be different. If you've completely stopped, thats terrific, you will have to think about a healthy diet, - avoid salt, -well, as much as you can anyhow, and Anything with alcohol in it at all.

Your Doctor should be able to give you some helpful information, as he/she will be able to advise you on whats best for you alone, have you been referred to a specialist at all? I know how hard it is, also being an alcoholic, if you Are still drinking, you should seriously think about how long you want to live.. Good luck, and I hope you find some answers, Pensylvania
