Hi All,

Has anyone with cirrhosis had hives? I can’t work out what caused it & it’s accompanied with nausea, upper stomach cramps & reflux. I’m worried about varices. Please help

Yes! They got really bad until I just stopped eating refined sugar and unhealthy carbs. Improved my skin and digestion almost overnight. Having cirrhosis means I have to have carbs but just healthy stuff now. Don't know if that is the root cause for you or if there is a potential connection with varices but thought I would share what helped me.

Thanks LineyLou, I’m at the hospital now so will share any info I can after I’ve been seen by doctor. I’ve been eating a lot of sugar lately so that may be the culprit. Thanks again for your reply x

Thank you

hope you get some answers, and a solution.

Let us know how you got on please.

I had hives last year and couldn’t get to the bottom of the cause.

I had a transplant in March 2022. Doctors were unsure what could’ve caused them.

After 6hrs waiting at the hospital, I was given antihistamine, anti—nausea & antacids. They checked my bloods & said everything looked ok so I was sent home - no cause found. They weren’t interested in finding out why, said I’d have to follow up with specialist. Bit disappointed but am at least feeling better.

Glad you’re feeling better.

I had a similar situation to you. The so say strongest antihistamines didn’t help my itching.

Never got to the bottom of the cause either.

Hope you continue to feel better đź‘Ť

Hi Kenny, I hope you feel better. I had Cirrhosis and the most horrendous itching specially at night, also nausea and reflux at times. I mentioned it to my consultant and was told its because of the liver malfunction. I was given some sachets 2 or 3 a day depending on the state of my itching and it was like a miracle. The itching stopped and I could sleep a bit better.

I had my transplant 5 months ago and my itching stopped from one day to the next so none more sachets.

It may be worth asking your doctor, certainly worked for me.

I hope you carry on to feel better.
