help please : hi since I been diagonosed... - British Liver Trust
help please
I think you are being too strict with yourself and not necessarily eating correctly for your condition. Coffee is good for the liver and full fat milk is actually fairly healthy (in moderation of course).
The BLT has good advice for NAFLD at :- britishlivertrust.org.uk/in...
There is dietary and exercise advice in a downloadable booklet at:- britishlivertrust.org.uk/do...
Ease up a bit…you need to be able to maintain your diet and taking too hard a line on what you eat will mean you are more likely to give up. Milk is actually really good for you. It contains a lot of protein and vitamins. Semi skimmed is fine - the fat content is lower but enough to make it taste ok. I’d certainly not cut it out. If you could cut out the sugar that would help you more. You should only consume in total 9 teaspoons of sugar a day, so if you could get used to coffee without the sugar that would really help your liver.
Okay thankyou I have cut down to 1 sugar atm and it’s hard getting used to it cos I have a sweet tooth and I think that is why I’m in this condition
You might want to try monk fruit sugar in moderation. No difference in taste and low glycemic index. If 1 teaspoon of sugar is a must, then have it, and strictly limit your sugar elsewhere. I was able to go from milk and sugar, to milk only, to black, with the right coffee (so it is possible to train yourself to enjoy coffee sans sugar).
When I want a creamy/milky like coffee, I use oats milk. You can buy the Thrive Market brand (online only) or make it yourself. To me it is 100% better than skim milk.
Hi, I use Arla BOB milk - it only has the fat of skimmed milk, but tastes more like semi. I love milky coffee, but hate it made with skimmed milk. It's fine made with the Arla BOB.
Aw thanks I will look for bob I live on milky coffees myself thanks for replying
You're welcome - another member on here recommended it to me when I was bemoaning the loss of milky coffee! Tastes a little different, but 100% better than skimmed!
okay thankyou I’m drinking bob now I’ve cut down to 1 sugar did do the stevia sweetner but that felt like torture it was pointless havin my coffee as I wasn’t enjoying it I’m goin to doctors tomorrow because I got a list of symptoms don’t know if it’s to do with fatty liver but looking online it do all point to that so I need to know how bad my fatty liver is to be feeling this rotten or if it’s something else thanks for replying hope your hubby is doin okay
I was never a coffee drinker u til I was diagnosed with cirrhosis. Then I learned it was good for your liver. I decided to drink iced coffee with unsweetened almond milk. The almond taste itself gives a sweeter taste. You might try that. I brew the coffee just like everyone else but then pour it over ice after it cools down.
Aw thankyou I love my coffee I can go without eating for days but coffee I crave since doctor phoned me I have ate fruit every day since but I got no appetite for food my downfall is sugar brown I e cut down from 2 to 1 then when I gets used to that which is hard atm I try go without but I will definitely try it thanks
Hi, it sounds as if you’ve had a scare and you’ve gone to extreme measures to try and Improve the situation which is totally understandable but not healthy in the long run. Cutting out fat completely annd living on fruit isn’t good for you and is going to cause you a lot of stress. You need a balanced diet and that includes some good fats in your diet to get the fat soluble vitamins.

You might also want to ask for a referral to a dietician for some good advice. Good luck, I’m sure you’ll turn things around.
Yes I am now scared and yes I have gone to the extreme your right but I wasn’t eating meals before just snacked on a bar of chocolate my body is not used to having meals yes doctor did say he’s getting a dietician for me for what I ate my grown up children couldn’t understand how I’m overweight and I suffer with my mental health anyway so this have pushed me over the top thanks for your reply I’m just hoping that I can repair the damage I done to my liver
Lots of people have turned things around on here and I’m sure you can too. Don’t be scared, you’re clearly motivated to make changes, you just need a bit of help to do the right thing. The doctors on the case with the dietician, you’ve clearly got family support, you’re on this group - you’ve got everything you need!
I’ve also been diagnosed with fatty liver…as far as I am aware it is saturated fat you should steer clear of. Some semi-skimmed milk in your coffee should be fine. I drink skimmed milk…when I first started using it I hated it, it seemed so watery, but now I prefer it and semi-skimmed seems too creamy for me now!
Hi...I was diagnosed with a 'fatty liver', must have been about 14 years ago now. The GP never discussed it with me, it's never been referred to in any dealings with NHS so I've just basically ignored it.
I had an abdominal CT scan a few months ago as I'd noticed a small lump in my right lower abdomen. It was diagnosed as a fatty lump, of no consequence...and at the same time it was noted that I had a moderately fatty liver...'as previously diagnosed'...or something like that.
Again...this has not been picked up by the GP...and at the age of 72 to be quite honest, I'm ignoring it.
I feel well, regularly do a three and a half mile walk in under an hour, drink a little more than moderately but not excessively. I have a generally healthy diet...not sure if I should be doing more.
Personally, I wouldn't ignore it like I've done but....
Deffo. Coffee has been proven to be great for the liver. just drink it black or with skimmed milk and no sugar. After drinking coffee with skimmed for the past few years I can no longer event tolerate semi-skimmed! tastes too 'bovine' for want of a better word. Treat your liver and have a coffee. They say Stevia is a good sugar substitute if you must have the sweet stuff.
