Ascites and HE

Hi,

My dad is currently in hospital (went in with HE and has been in for pretty much 23 weeks now). He is declining and has End Stage Liver Disease. He is 79.

On Friday he had 6litres of fluid drained from his stomach. He was mentally ok before this, no signs of HE but low sodium (127). I was shocked today to find him confused and absolutely shattered. He was given three bottles of Albumin but I'm just wondering if anyone else has seen this after a drain?

Thank you for reading,

Lucy.

I am sorry to hear about your poor dad. You must be so worried about him. My husband has regular 10l drains and does not get confused. He is a bit tetchy the day after but that passes. He is also shattered but rarely gets to sleep the night he is in hospital and a good night's sleep at home resolves that along with a few daytime naps. Your dad has been in hospital a long time. I hope they can stabilise him soon.
