hi

The itches are driving my partner mad!

He has ESLD, HRS and has his second admittance in hospital, this now being 7 weeks.

He’s been given antihistamine and E 45 but this doesn’t seem to be working

Any advice please

Thank you

Hi Powley

I'm sorry to hear this. I was given colestyramine (powder you drink with water) and 'dermacool' menthol and aqueous cream (uncomfortable to apply as it's COLD but seeps in after about 15 mins). This combination worked for me for months but suddenly in the past 4 weeks I have been absolutely tortured by the itching and as your partner will probably tesify, it is utter torture as it affects everything. The cream does still work if applied at time of need though.

I have no idea why my colestyramine stopped working for me but it may be correlated to ascites which I have at the moment (awaiting a drain). Perhaps your partner could see if either of these might work for him though?

All the best

Cecelia

I can sympathise with the itching, the only thing that helped me was Dermacool ,I kept it in the fridge so was nice and cold on application, was on antihistamine aswell so much like cecelia mentioned in her post My best to your partner and yourself

colesevelam 625 mg tablets prescribed by hepatology . These have been a life saver for me as I’ve caused scabs and scarring from scratching. Insist on getting them off dr. They may try to get you to use the powder drinks but it did not work for me. If you take oxy tablets for liver you have to have 4 hours in between taking itch pills. Good luck
