ELF score

My husband is a 44M, 6'1, 20.5 stone (was 21.5st, recently lost a stone in a couple of months).

He'd been feeling off since beginning of the year. Began getting neck and shoulder pain, saying he must have slept wrong but it's happening far too frequently for that to be the case. I did a urine dipstick test on him; glucose shot up. Doctors app confirmed T2DM (HBA1C was 50 so...'mildly' diabetic if there was such a thing!!). I pushed for further tests on his liver mainly because he had a history of binge drinking which increased to every day throughout the Covid period. Drank heavily most of his life from teens onward, stopped for about 4/5 years around 2007 and slowly started up again.

They did these intelligent LFTs; gives you a FIB4 score (his was 2.18 - if its below 1.34 it has a negative predictive value of greater than 90% to exclude severe fibrosis or cirrhosis, if above 3.28 it has a greater than 90% positive predictive value to detect cirrhosis.) The results in between give no information. So they did an ELF test which came up at 9.5.

I understand 10.5 indicates cirrhosis.

They've referred him for a routine abdomen U/S, not just specifically a liver U/S.

I guess I'm just wondering what to expect. Our brother in law (sisters husband) followed the same trajectory (T2DM, cirrohsis was found, liver cancer found a few months after, biopsy went badly, died of liver cancer inside 7 months) and so I'm kind of asking questions as preparation for the worst.

Thanks!
