13.9 kPa is only just into cirrhosis band on fibroscan score chart for NAFLD and may well be potentially reversible.
Also, there is the potential this may be a falsely elevated result - fibroscan alone cannot be used as a definitely conclusive tool to diagnose cirrhosis. It needs to be looked at along with bloods and other tests. If bloods show any signs of inflammation then fibroscan is notorious for being unable to differentiate between inflamed liver tissue and actual fibrotic liver tissue.
Your fat score is into Steatosis grade 3 so that's what needs addressing in order to stop further progression and possibly reverse damage already done.
The BLT have a downloadable booklet about how you can treat NAFLD with healthy diet and exercise and you can get this at;- britishlivertrust.org.uk/do...
Over the past fortnight on the forum there have been many threads and posts where folks have reversed what they were told was advanced liver disease. So take heart and keep working on your health and fitness.
I agree with Katie. Just live right and relax, nothing is hopeless unless you are extremely far along and you do not appear to be. But, in all seriousness, from now on healthy diet, no alcohol, etc. Good luck!
I have a very fulfilling job already thank you - one which I love and which I developed myself 27 years ago. A self-employment which is currently on hold as I continue to care 24/7 for my now recently transplanted husband. I have no qualifications to gain any job in a medical field and zero interest in doing so.
Any knowledge of the 'lingo' has come from 12 years of supporting my hubby on his liver journey, from courses and my 12 years active membership of the forum where I have done nothing but offer support to fellow members using some of the gathered knowledge and experiences.
I don't know what I did to attract such comment from yourself but trust me all I have ever tried to do is support others for no other reason than I found support here myself and hope to pass on similar hope and help to others.
I really appreciate your reply and the support in it, Katie - thank you for being so willing to help. You, and others in this forum, have helped me through some difficult days and I am gradually getting used to this new world and taking responsibility for doing something productive to help myself!. I hope life steadily improve for you and your husband soon too…
I don’t understand how you could say that about one of our members who consistently offers her advice and support to others. I don’t post often now but felt obliged to do so in view of such an unnecessary and incorrect response.
I feel for your dilemma and it’s very tricky to know what to do. I have non alcoholic cirrhosis, normal bmi. My fibrosis result was 19kpa, 18 months ago. I also had a normal bmi and had been training for a marathon so not too unhealthy. My only downfall was that I ate red meat once a week. I will be having another scan at 2 year review. I’m hoping that elimination of the red meat will keep the figure steady, something tells me it won’t go down by a lot, but you never know, anything is possible.
Thanks so much for the support. I feel it for you too - that must have been such a shock. I hope you see improvement with your next scan - will keep everything crossed for you.
I was diagnosed with chirrosis 23 April 2023, they said my non alcoholic fatty liver was suddenly full on chirrosis, I thought it was so bad, but instead of giving up, I decided to try and improve my health, they stopped a medicine I had been on for 14 yrs as it could have been that which contributed to the chirrosis, plus I had very bad controlled diebetes, since my daughter died from a sudden cardiac arrest (lots of stress in my life), well, I have been on a low carb diet, I can't eat heavy meats like steak, gammon etc, I just eat chicken or fish and some seafood, I had my review with heptology consultant yesterday (8th Aug 2024) and he said, my blood results were improving, this has given me a boost, so I will carry on trying to lose more weight and keep my glucose levels controlled, I still have to have my regular scan and reviews, but I feel for the first time in a year, I'm finally heading in the right direction yeh! So I would say don't panic,
What an inspiration - thanks so much. I’ve read some of your story and will go back and read the rest. Diet and exercise I can do - my weight makes it really hard going but that’s nothing if I can make a dent on this disease!! Thank you so much for your help I really appreciate it
