CIRRHOSIS? Ok, following on from fibroscan couple weeks back, have been copied in to letter from liver nurse to my (redundant) Consultant. Here goes...

" had routine liver ultrasound and there has been an improvement in that the liver is normal in shape and outline with mild increasing reflectivity consistent with mild fatty liver, whereas the scan in January showed that the liver had nodular outline consistent with cirrhosis".

CAP score 225 (so not even S1), but KpA still high at 41.6 (previously 74.3).

How would you interpret this?

To say I'm confused is an understatement.

I am still abstinent from the devil juice and will continue to be, but the flipping big question is, do I have cirrhosis or not????

Your thoughts please comrades. X

Hi David.

I find all of it totally confusing. My gp says I don't have cihrossis. My hepatic consultant says I do. I went from decompensated back to compensated. Ultrasounds seem to use the same jargon such as "coarse echotexture". A recent one said "echobright" - first time I've heard "echobright". No-one has explained what echobright means. My CAP is 316 - very high fat level in my liver.

KPA of 16. I was told by the fibroscan operator( I had to ask for a fibroscan which I had never heard of before and was never even offered one), that a Kpa of 16 was very bad. Definitely cihrossis and my liver is between F3/F4 (kpa measures the stiffness of the liver I was told so my score is very bad.

Child Pugh - class A - 5 points.

Totally confused by all of it. My liver did go to decompensated in August 2021 but went to compensated 3 months later. I was told they don't know how much COVID PLAYED A PART IN ALL THIS WITH BOTH MY LIVER AND KIDNEYS. I nearly died of liver and kidney faure in August 2021.

Still don't know how bad my liver cihrossis is as I get conflicting information.

I feel very confused.

Good luck with it all.

Is anyone else confused by all these scores and terminology??

Best wishes Golly

I'm confused too. Kpa 19.4 but Hepatologist has discharged me, waiting to hear if I am still due 6 monthly ultrasound checks

If you have cirrhosis, you are entitled to 6 monthly US to check on progression or otherwise. My liver nurse told me that I do not need to be under the care of a consultant and that she would be looking after me going forward. I asked her outright if I did, indeed, have cirrhosis. She said "I don't know, but I am going to treat you as if you have".
