Hello everyone.I was diagnosed with end stage liver disease in January with a prognosis of 2 to 5 years without a transplant. I quit drinking on 4th Oct 23. I had a phone consultation with my consultant yesterday and was told that all my latest bloods are within parameters and my liver is functioning well! I have to go for an ultrasound to check, but she's confident I won't need a transplant and if I keep off the booze (no problem there, never again!), monitor my diet and keep exercising I should be fine going forwards and will be able to come off my meds.
To say I'm astonished and hugely grateful is the greatest of understatements. Having prepared mentally for the worst, I've now got the chance of a fresh start and I'm going to grab it and enjoy every moment!

that’s brilliant be proud of yourself and keep doing the good stuff . The liver is amazing. Do you fuel yourself before bed I’m struggling with what I should have ?
I do. I eat a small breakfast, maybe just a roll or some porridge. I eat every couple of hours, just snacks like crackers, fruit, a handful of nuts. I have a small portion of an evening meal, lots of veg and chicken, fish or occasionally lean beef mince in chili or bolognese. Before bed I have a snack and take an apple and orange with me, and usually end up waking hungry and eat them.
Well done its nice to hear you liver doing well it just shows a few life style changes what it can do to someone's life l was not so lucky mine had gone to far and needed transplant but had it 8 months ago no problem's l feel so well and happy mentally good luck with your new life style
Well done with your achievements. It's proof that abstaining from alcohol if this is the cause will help you to improve the liver as it's an amazing organ. Keep up the good work and good luck for the future.
amazing news and well done to you! Thank you for sharing as it gives a lot of us hope who are in the thick of it also that anything is possible if we just make the right choices and really work hard and persevere. All the best to you xx
Thank you all for your very kind words. I'm realistic, the hard work can't and won't stop and things may alter of their own accord anyway, but right now it just feels lovely not to have the Sword of Damocles hanging above my head. Some of you have said my experience has given you a boost and some hope back. In that case, my work here is done...I reckon I'll stick around though, it feels a very safe and friendly space.
So pleased for you. I was diagnosed in 2020 and then went into full liver failure and pneumonia. I'm now doing well and my lfts are pretty stable. Hope it stays that way for you (and me) as long as possible ♥️
Yes, me too! The secondary health issues re the liver are 'challenging'. I spent nine days in hospital with a serious bowel infection. It was very touch and go, at one point they asked my partner if I wanted a chaplain. She replied "only if you really want to hear a chaplain being told to f*ck off." That's my girl.
You have certainly proven it can be done. Be extremely proud of yourself in achieving your deserved new life. I know your post will give many Members the positivity needed and give yourself a massive "pat on the back" for your incredible post. Please enjoy your future as life is really worth living.
I'm on carvadilol, spironolactone, lactulose, lanzoprazole, ferrous sulphate plus sertraline and thiamine for depression. I take vitamin B12 and D supplements and, having checked with my consultant that there are no contra-indications, I'm starting today on milk thistle and turmeric supplements. I also take cider vinegar in the mornings with hot water and honey and it seems to help settle my digestion.
Very well done and keep up the good work and please keep posting your journey on here. I have been recently diagnosed with liver cancer through biopsy and now need to have another biopsy. I am keeping very positive like you,
congratulations! All down to your hard work. Please check with your doctor before taking alternative therapies. There are contraindications for turmeric with liver disease patients. The Food Standards Agency has issued a statement warning about turmeric and liver damage.
Yep, what I've researched said there is no problem with it in cooking and an adverse reaction from your liver to a supplement is very rare, but I shall play it safe and pick my Consultant's brain first. After what I've put my poor old liver through and it's still battling for me, if I harmed it accidentally I think it would move out.
