Have you done a Covid test? You'd be eligible for antivirals if positive.

See what your local area protocol is for getting a test.

Hospitals are full of 'sick people' and it might not have been mum that the bug came from. Definitely worth a Covid test - just in case.

Hello

This is a question that your own health care professional is best placed to answer, as only they have access to your medical records.

We suggest talking this through with your own doctor or health care professional in the first instance.

If you are unable to get a GP appointment, we suggest calling NHS 111 if you are concerned.

Best wishes

Hi, I’m 4 years post and I too picked up that horrendous virus. Coughed so much, my poor liver ached! That was 4 weeks ago and I’m almost over it. Saw my Dr and was diagnosed with a very mucus, chesty virus. Tested negative for Covid. Chest has almost cleared up but still sniffling. It will take me a few more weeks to rebuild my strength again. Plenty of rest will help although I hated resting as I did enough of that pre and post transplant. Wishing you a speedy recovery!

No as he was more concerned about my cough as it could have progressed but thankfully it didn't. I did however go and buy some cough over the counter medication for chesty coughs and it was magic, the next day, the cough calmed down and within a couple of days, the crackling, heavy breathing, out of breathless became better. My liver still aches now and then but it's much better. I'm due full bloods next week so let's see the results.

This sounds as if it could be the horrendous cough virus/infection which is doing the rounds at the moment. My partner and I have both just got over this but it took several weeks. I had five weeks of severe coughing fits, breathing difficulties and crackly chest, all of which left me totally exhausted. In all honesty I should have gone to the GP as I have a lung condition which means I should have antibiotics to counteract any possible chest infection, but our practice is currently staffed by locums and an impossible online contact system, and for the first couple of weeks I could not have got out and gone down to the surgery so I didn't bother.

My advice to you, (and to me should it happen again!), is to ring 111 who can help with appointments and medication. You will have the opportunity to refer to your medical history to make it a matter of concern and urgency. Hope you both get this sorted out soon.

Thank you, I have been feeling fine this week, just very tired, the after-effects of both the virus/infection and the physical effort of all that coughing!! My partner worries when he has such a cough as it has resulted in a hernia in the past, but he has fortunately not found that this current bug has affected either that, or his kidney and liver function.

I hope that you will be free of the cough soon. I have to say it seemed never-ending and was very debilitating. We did stay indoors for quite a few weeks, at first so as not to spread any possible germs, but then because it was embarrassing having coughing fits in public!

Wishing you well.

Hi, contact your transplant coordinators for advice that's what they are there for. They know your history, in my experience,7 years post my GP just either sends me to hospital, tells me to phone Addenbrookes or has given me drugs that I shouldn't take.Hope you feel better soon

Just to let you know I haven’t been anywhere and I’ve caught the same bug very bad cough very chesty bad headaches low grade temperature does not go higher than 37. I think it’s a virus in the air I’m I. West Yorkshire my partner has had it last week he’s not been anywhere but we have had a couple of deliveries which my partner dealt with. If you are worried please see your doctor. I hope you start to feel much better very soon. Best wishes x
