Sick with worry .. gamma GGT level 159 and ALT 62

Evening all,

I’m just looking for some advice or guidance really on my recent blood test results following up on the pain I’ve had in my right hand side upper abdomen.

As the title suggests, my GGT has come back very high at 159 (think the average for a woman is under 30) and ALT is also above the normal limit.

I’ve been diagnosed with fatty liver disease before. Do these results indicate things have got worse? My ALT last May was 99 so it’s come down. But the GGT is what is freaking me out.

I’m a mum and an anxious one at that. I have been eating better and exercising more but tbh it’s a total lifestyle overhaul needed. I lost several stone a few years ago before having my child but put some of it back on again (although not all). I’ve never smoked and drink socially although will be giving that up too.

Any advice or comments welcome.

thank you so much

GGT can be very sensitive and go up and down, mine was up to 1000 a while ago and is now down to 81 (should be between 0-39) I have an autoimmune disease PBC

Please do not worry, have you had a cold/ virus recently ? You say you were diagnosed with fatty liver a while ago, but you seem to be doing well by losing weight well done.

if you are concerned I would definitely go to the doctors for them to look into this for you good luck

Agree with Lollipop. My GGT was over 1500 once and had no idea other than knowing I’d been drinking a lot. It’s now down to around 100 which is still too high but considerably better. Your doc will know best and you can consider whether there were any factors leading up to blood test date that may have influenced this, but if like me, a healthy lifestyle and no alcohol should bring this in range. Try not to worry
