HelloMy partner has just been diagnosed with decompensated liver, he has fluid retention on his legs and belly. Does anyone know if this will go or will remain? Can't find any answers online. TIA
Fluid retention: HelloMy partner has... - British Liver Trust
Fluid retention
Has he been prescribed water tablets/diuretics to help with the fluid? Sometimes they ight need to do a paracentesis - drain to get rid of fluid on the tummy.
He needs to follow a low salt diet to help prevent future build up.
Whatever has caused his cirrhosis needs to be tackled too and it might be possible for the liver to become compensated again.
Lots of good information on cirrhosis at:- britishlivertrust.org.uk/in...

hi my husband takes fluid tablets for his fluid, but it’s something he always has especially in the legs which then leads to cellulitis a good trick is lying on the sofa or floor and raising his legs up the wall for 20 mins works a treat
HiI have similar issues with fluid retention from my liver cirrhosis.
I have edema and lymphoedema and occasionally cellulitis which resulted in me having IV antibiotics
Compression may be required but make sure you get them made to measure to ensure the stockings fit properly and compress the right areas.
I prefer closed toe because I have very little feeling in my toes but closed toe stockings are harder to pit on.
Chat to your consultant if you think Compression may help along with the diuretics
Good luck
