Jaundice occurs as a result of a build up of bilirubin.

You can have high levels of bilirubin at all stages of liver illness and in cases of gall bladder issues or indeed you can also have normal levels of bilirubin even when serious liver damage is present.

There will always be some sort of reason for high bilirubin/jaundice and it would need more investigation.

Hi, no not everyone gets jaundice, I never did, you have to have a high bilirubin level, I've had a liver transplant but my bilirubin level was never high. Everyone has different symptoms.Hilary
