Hi all, I posted about a relative who ended up in hospital when he presented with non painful jaundice and itching at the local surgery/GP.MRI and CT did not find gallstones as expected.

Since discharge, information is the patient's bilibrubin was 156 at that time.

I asked the family to request the full results (liver panel &bloods) as only bilibrubin was mentioned in the discharge letter from specialist.

From a member here, I suggested that they ask about HIDA scan if condition doesn't improve especially if it's known if the gallstones are pigmented it won't show in traditional scans.

Posting for advice as the patient in question will be traveling overseas for two weeks. His condition seems to be improving. He has dark urine (improving ) and loss of taste/appetite.

The specialist didn't appear to think there's a need to cancel the travel plans. Yet, the family is keen to ensure the patient enjoys the trip as far as possible in spite of the malaise and take steps in maintaining his wellbeing whilst they are away.

Meanwhile, I recommended that the family ask the surgery if there are any medications they can prescribe for itching outwith what is available OTC; Piriton is what is suggested.

If the condition doesn't improve, what are the next steps and should a HIDA scan be undertaken? At the moment the management/observation is for bloodwork.

Many thanks
