So glad I found this site! I’ve had no symptoms, went to gastroenterologist for a review of an ultrasound of my liver. I’m 53, ultrasound was normal. My liver enzymes have always been in range,. I had the smooth body blood test come back abnormal. Does this confirm AIL? I gave osteopenia (bone loss) and any steroid csn gave a great impact on that condition. I’m just a little lost. I go bank today due to abnormal lab so I will ask questions. Any advice? (I’m in the US.

I think abnormal SMA test is not enough to diagnose AiH. However I think you should check this with your gastroenterologist.
I just got back from my visit, he ordered a biopsy to confirm. Even my ultrasound found no issues or inflammation. I’m not sure if this means I’m catching it early or if it is just temp high. So now the wait to get the biopsy scheduled. Thank you for the info.
Your symptoms/situation is very similar to mine
I have no symptoms of AIH, other than a fatty liver which showed via blood tests and ultra sounds - I had a liver biopsy to confirm but as far as I'm aware, it's not confirmed it (I'm still waiting for my follow-up)
Wait and see what the biopsy shows up and go from there x
The presence of smooth muscle antibody doesn't necessarily mean AIH at all. A certain percentage of the population have it and have nothing wrong with their liver. Normally with AIH you would see abnormal liver function tests as well.
