Private MRI for liver lesion

Morning ,has anyone accessed MRI privately ?

I have compensated cirrhosis (NAFLD ) needing gallbladder removal . Had pancreatitis earlier in the year caused by gallstones

have had CT scan 3 months ago , saw Registrar yesterday, only to be told he would like to see MRI with contrast to assess the 11 mm lesion in my liver , present and unchanged for 3 years and assumed to be haemangioma.

I have my liver care at a hospital 25 miles from home , was admitted with pancreatitis to my local hospital 3 miles away who due to the cirrhosis referred me to my local tertiary liver unit 30 miles away .

None of the hospitals share any imaging so needs to be repeated.

Now today I find that radiographers ate on strike for 2 days , so I’m sure this will have an impact on my wait for MRI ,and so will delay further being added to a waiting list for surgery .

Life is miserable so seriously considering private MRI that can provide both images and written report.

Thanks in advance

Fran

Hi. I enquired about a private contrast enhanced ultrasound as I’ve been waiting two months after the normal ultrasound was found to be not clear enough. I was quoted between £300 and £700 so would think an MRI would be more. You would also need a referral from your consultant. Mine refused. I’ve since been transferred from Leeds to Hull and am now in limbo with no idea what’s going on. I have a 7mm lesion that, after searching through my medical records, discovered was in a scan result in 2016 that I was never informed about. I know it’s worrying but if your lesion is unchanged after a number of years I believe that’s a good sign. Good luck.

thanks for your prompt reply.

Locally MRI £300-400;, fortunately I can run to that .

I’m not concerned about the lesion as my Gastro consultant reassured .

I’m trying to expedite my gallbladder op by getting the required MRI privately to hopefully reduce further delay in being listed for the surgery .

I have had so many CT scans / MRI ‘s I’m surprised I don’t glow in the dark , pity that hospitals don’t communicate or share information effectively.

Thanks again

Fran
