Joint pain and bad sleep

Hi maco .. yep , but my pain is due to osteoarthritis and Lower lumbar spine degeneration.. I started suffering with insomnia in 2017 , has never improved even after going to cbt to Try different methods...so I just go with the flow now, if I nod off I nod off if I'm awake at 4am then there's nothing I can do about it sadly 😥
My hubby suffers joint pain.He has very low vitamin D so takes tablets for it.
He has arthritis in his knee, necrosis in his hips and 4 fractures in his lower spine.
He can't walk unaided now.
His balance is compromised.
His fractures was caused by just jolting his back.
X
Yes I have low vitamin D , on meds but occasionally I need the 6 week booster top up for some reason I do sympathise .. its awful being in constant pain
What meds u on for low vitamins x
Only vitamin D , with the occasional booster of the 6 week vials , at moment I'm on folic acid due to aneamia x
I have vascular necrosis of both hip's, but my vitamin D levels were normal in January
Must be really painful
I've been diagnosed with ostiopenia and fatty liver so I don't know why I'm getting this pain
I initially had osteopenia in my left hip that turned to osteoarthritis.. I think its quite a common thing in all honesty. Maybe you need to go on vitamin D , maybe ask for a blood test to check your levels . Fatty liver won't cause pain as such ,not in the joints anyway
I'm on adcal d3 tablets twice a day, before I started taking them my vitamin D level's was 128nmol/L in January
I have avascular necrosis of both hip's
Well thats why you have joint pain unfortunately.. are you under any pain management clinic? I was under pain management for a few years I'm now still under pain physio at my local hospital if I need them
I can understand the pain in my hips, but not in the other joints I woke up this morning feeling like a had about 10 pints the night before, I think my fatty liver has been misdiagnosed
There was talk of a pain clinic but I haven't heard anything more about it I'm still waiting on a DEXA SCAN
All my bloods were normal apart from GGT which was 67
Well sadly I can't comment on anything medical, best to see your GP or liver consultant and I would be inclined to chase the pain management clinic Have you had a full blood test not just LFT as not everything we suffer from is liver related.
I'm 15 yrs with cirrhosis, I have gotten used to how I am , take each day as it comes but if something is troublesome I'll always get to the bottom of it these days we have to push to get answers .
They took 5 tube samples from my arm which I think included a full blood count got the liver and kidneys results back they were ok but the FBC seems to have gone missing I've been on to the hospital about and after filling in a online form I'm waiting for to hear back from them
That's good 👍 , things take time these days .. just keep them on their toes ☺️
hello - sorry to learn of your struggles. And yes I have something similar. I have cirrhosis that moved from decompensated to compensated a couple of years ago. Regular pain (worse when tired or anxious) and muscle weakness, often disturbed sleep (this week, every morning awake at 3) and almost constant physical and mental tiredness. I was diagnosed with HE and lactulaose helps but I cannot stay with it all the time because of the side effects. A recent bout of covid (third in a year) has left me exhausted, depressed and lost. My blood tests showed things are now ok (except vit D - so you helped me think more about that, thanks), so my consultant said anything I experience now cannot be due to liver. Reading the stories shared here, I suspect she is taking a very narrow view of hepatology. Keep looking after yourself and chase the blood tests - haemoglobin and iron tests could be helpful - it ia possible to have low iron, no sign of anaemia and to be fatigued. This is not always recognised. Iron injections can help in that case but getting the tests and treatment can be a chore
My iron levels are fine
Thanks for the reply
Thanks for the reply 👍
Why do you have muscle weakness if your cirrhosis is decompensated?
Sorry, I meant compensated
hi - thanks for the reply - it is hard to answer that question (I get the impression looking at postings elsewhere by this group that everyone’s experience is different) - perhaps decades of very heavy alcohol consumption, over work, anxiety and poor wellbeing make it impossible to tease out what is liver related and what isn’t - when I went into liver failure I was having seizures, plus major burns leading to skin grafts etc - maybe it is that? Or is it (to make it more complicated) that this is how I am when I am sober? I wish there was a simple answer and one that most or all of us could recognise and work with for a better life - start where we are and work from there, I suppose
Hey there.
I have cirrhosis and, like Millie, I agree that not everything is liver related.....although if my head fell off my Hepatology Consultant would certainly blame my liver!!!
I too have been diagnosed with Osteopenia, my mum has had Arthritis since forever, and I am on the verge of asking for a pain specialist to help as I feel I am going down the same route fast. I wake up each day with sore, red swollen knuckles, knee and ankle pain. I get back pain if I lean over at all and I even feel it spreading to my hips.
A nurse recently picked up on an old record that was sent to my GP asking for me to be put on Calcium suppliments. It never happened. I have started taking them myself and have previously been on intensive D, but can't help thinking that starting Calcium earlier might have helped.
My personal advice....for what it is worth.... is take Vitamin D and Calcium, although I am no doctor.
Luckily, many Calcium tablets on general sale also contain Vitamin D.....I would look for those as the D helps the body absorb the Calcium.
I hope your pain gets better, but sadly, it sometimes doesn't.
Warm regards- Kate.
Ohhhh....forgot to say.....As an insomniac since my teenage years, again, I agree with Millie.
Get it while you can, no matter when. Sometimes my body just shuts down and I collapse into a nap. This is obviously not possible if you are working, but do everything you can to get those precious hours!
Again, warm regards - Kate.
Working I can just about walk, I can't even managed to stand for 5 minutes
Thanks for the reply Kate
Mines old age and after doing 12 hour shifts
Maco, up to this year my main symptoms were crippling central fatigue and inner ear ringing/dizzy/vertigo issues. Possible HE cause from PSVD or similar.
Then since January this year ,the joint pain in both shoulders, both elbows and both hips and tailbone so sore I could barely sit down. Couldn’t sleep on either side regardless where I placed my arms.
Some nights would wake up with my whole arm aching all the way along.
Then it was difficult to get to sleep again.
I said to my lovely supportive wife, with the joint pain on top of the fatigue i wouldn’t be able to continue working.
Short story X-rays and US and 1 guided steroid injection in just the right shoulder took all the pain away everywhere for over 2+ weeks now.
The tail bone has come back but it’s a lot less and have a guided steroid injection for this next week .
It might only last a few months, but what a relief and able to sleep better
So you have cirrhosis
My doctor has told me I have fatty liver, but i experience what you've experienced my doctor won't listen to me I think I'm experiencing H.E
Do you get any muscle pain
It occurs when there is too much uric acid in the blood. The uric acid forms crystals in the joints, causing pain and inflammation. Drink as much water as possible to flush out the uric acid. Eat sour cherries if available at your market in a can.
