can anyone help with more information as I am still unsure what’s going on. I was diagnosed with fatty liver last week. I understand what I have to do to keep a check on it. But I am having problems understanding why this has happened. Last year I had an ultrasound and it showed normal liver but dilated bile duct. I asked for another one due to the duct. The results come back as fatty liver with normal bile duct. Since last year I have given up smoking drinking and following a strict diet with milk thistle. The only thing I feel that has caused it is drinking large smoothies every morning. I am finding correlating advise on the internet. I can’t have a referral to hepatology because my bloods are ok. I feel deflated because I have tried so much to live a healthy life. The reason I changed my lifestyle was a reading of 9.36 for my ELF. I am a nurse but rubbish at liver anatomy and the information about smoothies are all contrary. Thank you in advance

Hey Bettina, I think the ‘Why has this happened by to me?’ question hits everyone early on after a diagnosis and sometimes there just isn’t an answer. I’ve got a genetic liver condition and 2 autoimmune conditions. My parents didn’t have the gene so why me? No one knows what causes our immune systems to over-react and start attacking our own bodies. It’s one of the frustrations of liver disease. If it’s alcohol at least people know but I’m certain it doesn’t make them feel any better. It’s frustrating but at least you know what to do going forward.
