So I'm just 60 and diagnosed decompensated ARLD.in September 22. A month later they have found Varices and then a lesion on liver. Have been sober 9 months, on strict diet and keep to it most of the time. Theve banded 2 Varices and put me on beta blockers.
You know before I got unwell presenting with ascites and oedema i had no idea how complicated this illness can be. I am thankful to everyone here for their words of encouragement. Although not posted before I felt I wanted to say thanks- some of your tips have been really useful.
I've seen so much courage here. It helps greatly.
I hope Monday goes OK. Just worried they may find something and reject me but I hope that's just negative thinking. I try to stay positive but l Iike everyone I suspect, have my days. Today is one of them.
However I consider myself lucky I have good chance.. better 1000x had I stayed drunk and ignorant.
Hope this all makes sense. Trying not to take myself to seriously 🙄

Which hospital are you having your Assessment at? Mine was at QEHB - I’m guessing yours isn’t as you would have had a one day Assessment already (unless you have?).
Tbh although stressful by it’s very nature - it’s like an Exam isn’t it - aaagh! - I found it really reassuring that it was so thorough and everyone was extremely friendly, including the others who were being assessed.
I hope you find it all ok and that you are given the fantastic news you want at the end of it all (well you don’t get told straight away but you know what I mean!).
HI Gus-- Good luck, as others have said, it isn't as bad as it sounds, you will be well looked after, by friendly, professional people, and you will have a very clear idea of how you are, and what happens next. Try to take it easy...will someone be going with you?
Thanks. That's good to know. They asked me to bring someone but the two people I would ask , one's away for a week and the other has twins both taking axams, so only me. They are putting me up in a hotel ( in the hospital) for two nights as I live some distance away. My biggest fear is fitness.. I have nerve damage on leg( nothing to do with cirrhosis) but makes walking difficult. Going to look for a pool if I have the energy and a cafe that will do me baked potatoes and avocado salad.! Sometimes I think only have food left.. difficult when don't like eating and nauseous but feel food and exercise are the few things I can do to help myself. Into smoothies/ juicing at the moment and keeping diet alkaline where possible and obviously no/little salt and lots of carbs. Sorry.. getting carried away with culinary stuff 😀
Hi, good luck with your assessment. I had my assessment at Addenbrookes, nothing too taxing or invasive, lung function, x ray, CT scan, lots of blood tests, talk to team surgeon, coordinators, dietician. Take a notebook and write down any questions you have as they get forgotten, take something to entertain yourself as there is lots of waiting about.If you use Facebook please feel free to join our friendly and knowledgeable Facebook group called liver transplant support uk, thousands of people that have been in your situation.
Hi everyone . Thank you for your support. Means a lot. I was a smoker for 40 years.. been vaping for last 2 yrs but lung function is a worry. Still cut down on vape too.. just can't do everything all at once ! It's the RFH in London. I live in Oxford. Apparently they get you to walk up stairs (think ill take the lift) 😀😃
Hubbie had his at kings college in 2021. The only test he was worried about was the fitness and lung test. He blew in a machine, no probs at all. The fitness was on an exercise bike, he could barely walk at the time with the water on his legs and muscle wastage but came out of the test saying he didnt know why he'd got him self in a state over it. We have even stayed in touch with someone else that was there for the assessment too. Good luck.
I had my TP assement few months it went all right you got nothing to worry about still not on list yet they are making sure I don't drink again I was going to pub every day just drinking squash they told me to stop going to pub in case I get tempted been off it now 14 months now I just waiting for a appointment now good luck Lon
