A little about me I’m 27 yr old female, and I’ve had on and off episodes of binge drinking for 5 years or so with a year or two of abstinence in there as well. Today I went to the ER after a few day binge and turns out my pain is due to gallstones but when I asked how my liver looked on the ultrasound he said mildly fatty but he’s not worried. I went home and read my ultrasound report and it says “liver borderline englarged. Increased hepatic echogenicity compatible with fatty infiltration and or other hepatic parenchymal disease” and I looked that up and now I’m freaking out and very worried the damage is much worse then what he described. Any feedback?

We’re not doctors on here, but the ultrasound description is for fatty liver as your doctor has told you. It’s completely reversible at this stage, so there’s no need to freak out. It’s important, however, that you keep an eye on your alcohol use. Fatty liver can progress into fibrosis, which you want to avoid. The liver is pretty resilient but best to treat it with respect. Eat a healthy diet and keep to recommended drinking levels ( or even better have a prolonged period of abstinence) and your liver will return to normal. Don’t use Dr Google… if you’re still worried go to your GP and take your ultrasound report with you. He can talk you through the technical stuff.
Hi, please look at the British liver trust website for information and advice about fatty liver disease, information about diet and exercise to help reverse fatty liver, also give up or cut back on alcohol.britishlivertrust.org.uk/in...
