I went to the BLT roadshow and had a scan and my score was 9. I’ve been a heavy drinker for years, so I knew it would be high., and I haven’t drunk since the scan on Monday.
The clinician was lovely, and recommended I go to my GP to get blood tests but also said I shouldn’t be too concerned.
Everything I’ve read suggests I should though? Does this mean I have cirrhosis? I’m confused and scared.

Hello. As far as I know, the liver stiffness cutoff used to diagnose liver cirrhosis by fibroscan is higher than your liver stiffness result. In addition, your liver stiffness score may be affected by recent alcohol use and inflammation of the liver. In order to assess this effect, it is recommended to check the level of ALT in the blood before fibroscanning. I think you should meet with your doctor to discuss a strategy for your additional examination. In any case, you have already taken the first step.
