Following a call tonight from our consultant ,we have been warned that due to my Husbands clot getting bigger they are concerned if things get much worse they may not be able to offer him the second transplant he is currently listed for .
Things were also made clear that this second op , 13 years from last one, will prove very tricky and is far more riskier on every level this time and that it may go wrong in theatre when they open him up and he may not survive due to complications removing old liver scarring etc .
At this point in time they are willing to go ahead, if things remain as they are ,and a donor comes soon.
I am totally numb , I cannot get my head around the fact things may not work out , obviously they have to tell you worse case , so we can inform our family etc .
I cant imagine losing my 57 yr old husband and up until now I have been very positive ,but this has made me nervous

Hello Maison. It must be a very scary time for both of you. It's good they are still willing to go ahead. I know it's not easy but try and concentrate on the positive and avoid thinking about worst case scenarios. A liver transplant always carries a degree of risk but just think of it as a being offered a chance of life and hold on to that hope. Sending vitual hugs to you both. Holly x
My portal vein was completely blocked a month before my transplant, I was told it would be down to the surgeon on the day of he was prepared to operate, I had to have a ct scan on the day I got THE call and sit and wait, couple hours later a nurse came in and said the liver is good and the surgeon is prepared to operate but in another 2 weeks the answer would be no. I had to inject blood thinners for a year pre transplant. This was was my first and only transplant. If you use Facebook please feel free to join our friendly and knowledgeable Facebook group called liver transplant support uk.
