Hi allI know it's been asked before, but where is the best place to get a quote for travel insurance if you have PBC? First time I've booked a holiday in years and the quotes are extortionate.

Thanks

Hi HB70, We currently have Allclear annual travel insurance. I tried several insurance companies, some who would not insure us at all and others that were far more expensive than Allclear. It was still very expensive but if we can use it 3 or more times, it will be worth it.

Hi HB70

I previously have used AllClear but now use Avanti - cheaper for me but I do have a lot of conditions in addition to being post Transplant. I tried a lot of insurers on the Healthunlocked list and most would not even insure me unfortunately.

Maybe worth a try? It would be interesting to see how you get on.

Good luck!

I've mentioned before that you really do have to shop around for travel insurance if you have a variety of conditions including transplants. The problem is that you have to complete nearly every section of their forms and only find out afterwards that you may not have be accepted. Hence the frustration. Personally I'd always go for annual multi-trip insurance as it saves going through the whole application process more than once a year.

Totally agree Bika!

One question that stops you getting insurance - full stop - is if you are awaiting the results of any form of investigation 👎. Then there’s also the problem of not being able to remember all of the conditions that you have.

Once I had a claim problem for a very expensive trip I had to cancel. The doctor wrote, in response to the insurer’s questions, about something that was detailed in a letter that the hospital had sent to him but had not sent to me. Not knowing about this issue I had obviously not specified that in my insurance application questionnaire form. Had no end of trouble resolving that.

hi

I also have PBC. I got insurance with Avanti a yearly worldwide cost me £503! If you’re only going to Europe it’s much cheaper.

Thank you that's good to know, I thought I'd never be able to go to America again!

Not going to America is NOT the worst thing in the world you know 😉

I'm having similar problems myself. Did you manage to find a more flexible company by any chance?

I went with Staysure in the end. I have PBC and managed to get the European cover I needed at a reasonable price. They also gave me a 20% discount code for friends and family. If you are able to send your email I can forward it to you.
