I'm trying to sort travel insurance and before i had a bleed (not my fault i may add) i have to declare it. Before this and declaring everything else (Cirrhosis & high blood pressure) the quote was expensive but manageable (around £600) for a 2 week trip to the US.
Now, as i refresh the quote an add that i've had banding done it has quadrupled. I get that the risk profile is now different but hoping that someone has advice on specialist insurers that might be able to help? I'm continuing to google away but thought i'd ask.

The British Liver Trust helpline (when it reopens) has a list of insurers they can send you who might be willing to insure liver patients. The portal hypertension and varices issue will probably prove an issue until you get the all clear as long haul flying is potentially problematic if you still have any varices.
Thanks Ayrshire, i had a hunt and found it. I'll run through them. it looks like it may be a better idea to sort an annual policy and that way i can use it for any business stuff too.
I have searched quite extensively for travel insurance for the US and Canada.
The best I found was £1800 for a 2 week trip. Others here have found cheaper, but when I tried the same insurers as them, my quote was higher. I didn't go to Canada in the end, it was only to visit my Sister in Law, for a Gathering of the Clan.😊😊
If it's OK i'd like to resurface this. Have spent the morning ringing round people and have been met with the usual scary quotes. I've started working through the list on the BLT list but hoping someone has a success story of travelling with Cirrohsis.
The biggest factor is that it's to the US, the most expensive place on earth to fall ill if you aren't insured.
Another factor seems to be the fact i had a bleed from varices. Annoingly this wasn't caused by the issues i have with my liver, rather it was caused by medication but i can see the argument that if i didn't have the underlying issues then the varices wouldn't be there anyway....
I did find a post on here from someone (can't remember who) who used All Clear, and got insurance for a reasonable price, but when I contacted them, the fact I had varices and HE, pushed the quote beyond reach.
My daughter lives in Seattle, so I can't visit her and my Grandchildren now, and have to wait for their visits here, to see them. I also have relatives in Canada as well so I can't visit them either.
Idid take the risk once, but never again, it's just not worth it imho.
Holy shit mate you might just have saved the day! I never even thought about doing it this way and i've messaged ID75 in the hope he / she is still around. I ran through a quote though and it didn't ask me for any details of conditions, only let me choose monetary values but i'll keep going.
Happy days. I pay £30 a month Company policy. I've no acute cirrhosis symptoms, with disclosure I had a phone chat with their Medical officer Millstream only added £20 annually. One stipulation, no alcohol.
Thanks man, will see how it goes. I don't have any symptoms off ciroohsis, but it's there if you see what i mean. Not explaining it very well but nothing is being done and i'm not receiving any treatment for that particular condition. It seems the varices and the banding recently are the problems, and the fact i'm travelling to the most expensive place on earth for medical treatment.
I'm more worried about the bloody flight than anything else. Consultant on the 24th to talk about that, no idea if i can fly or not but i'm hopeful.
I just did a quote through the online portal and declared everything. They said that they can offer a policy but won't cover the liver stuff but it's declared. That means that with the combination of the standard policy and a visitors policy then it should cover all eventualitied for something around the £300 mark. Might do a wee post with my findings if this works out to update ID75's sterling efforts.
Well, that's the next question but don't see the consultant for a while yet. At least if I've done all the legwork on the travel insurance I can be ready when I am given the nod, or not....
I use AllClear £1600+ for worldwide excluding USA Caribbean Mexico Canada (I love the term worldwide in this context 😀). This amount was solely down to me really because my wife has no declarable conditions. I had 15 - well over 15 - but in discussion with them I dropped three to bring it down to their max of 15!
Mind you I am glad I took it out as we had to cancel our expensive Xmas holiday. No the battle begins with them I bet 😕.
Miles, it was All Clear I got my £1800 for 2 weeks to Canada quote, and that was for both of us , and like you, Annie has no pre-existing conditions to declare. Maybe the fact that I am not transplanted, and my cirrhosis is still active, made the quote higher.
I might try Ofeck's Visitor Health Cover, but I don't see why it would be different, as the risk from the insurers point of view would be the same.
