If you are not in receipt of qualifying benefits to allow for free prescriptions or in the categories for support (low income wise and/or various health conditions which make you exempt from payment) with prescription charges then your best way to save money on prescriptions is a pre-payment certificate which gets you all your meds for an annual cost of £108.10.

Hope the above information helps.

Hi Jess, the pre-payment method does save a lot. Thats what I do, its literally a tenner a month, which is much better than paying that for each prescription item.
Hi Jess, Lots of info on the Citizens Advice website. Also worth giving them a call as they may be able to help with all sorts that you didn’t know was available.
Some medical conditions qualify you for free prescriptions, ( nothing to do with benefits etc) may be worth checking with your gp to see if you qualify, as they need to complete a form for you. I initially was entitled because of under active thyroid, you don't just get that medication free, it covers you for all prescriptions
