I’m interested to find out if anyone has had this done, extent of scarring and discomfort 😐 I am scared about a cancer diagnosis but I’m hoping that will just be de roofing. Ever the optimist 😉

has anyone had de roofing a cyst done?
There is one thread from 3 months ago with patients who had de-roofing of cysts plus ablation/resection. Perhaps a bit bigger surgery than what is possibly being discussed in your case. healthunlocked.com/britishl...
Don't know whether these members are still active on the forum but maybe if you post on the thread they may get a notification and reply.

thank you Katie. You ok?
I had numerous cysts deroofed (laparoscopically) when I was first diagnosed with PLD. Very little scarring although the procedure wasn’t a great success for me as the cysts grew back almost instantaneously. I was told that they wouldn’t/couldn’t repeat the procedure as too much scarring would render a future transplant impossible. From memory I think I had 4 days in hospital.
sorry to hear that. You ok now?
Thank you for asking. My PLD was quite aggressive, there was no area of my liver that wasn’t covered in cysts so a resection was never an option for me. I had a transplant two years ago which I should probably have pushed for a number of years before! Feeling great now and catching up on doing all the things I missed out on over the years.
Hi, I had a large liver cyst deroofed last year. What would you like to know ?
Hi, thanks for reply. I am wondering what to expect pain level wise afterwards, and how big are the scars left? I assume you are ok now though?
I think I’m anxious as never had an operation like this, beyond having wisdom teeth out. I’m afraid googling is not helping much 😂
Awaiting MRI to completely rule out cancer, but I’m parking that thought and trying to remain positive.
De roofing is the bare minimum that will have to be done as various cysts, but the largest is pushing other organs out of sync. I was shocked when they showed the images. I was so lucky that the operator was happy to discuss results and explain what may happen as long as not cancer, rather than wait to see consultant. They did not explain last time I had a US a few years back and it’s so unnerving to have to wait.
Thank you so much for sharing. Just helps me to get my head around it all 😀
Hi Archie,
Please don’t worry I was anxious as you are and yep made the same mistake and googled. I have 3 very small incisions, where they went in and done the operation. I was back at work 6 weeks after operation. My cyst was 12 cms and I have some small other ones which they will leave. Apparently it’s very common for cysts as you get older so please don’t worry. Do as your told when you get home take it easy and take pain relief when needed. I was in hospital I think it was around 4 days. Please message if you need a chat or you need anymore help. Julie
