Tight painful calf

Hello All, quick question - anything simple you can do to to help relive a tight painful calf? Seeing consultant next week following bloods yesterday and catching up, so appreciate they will pick up on medication. So looking for anything you might have found works. Elevating leg at night, so that works to sleep, but as soon as I put my foot to the floor it’s no better. Have also tried walking, after laughing at myself shuffling along over-taken by a slow snail, it eases slightly, but comes back quickly. (Sorry quick question became an essay - of a shuffler)

Thanks in advance.

have you seen a Doctor about this already? If not,i would see a Dr as soon as possible in case of DVT. It probably isn't but you would want it ruling out?

Thanks, Ewife, appreciate your guidance and thoughts

Got to a GP yesterday, measured calf’s and did a full examination. Thinks it part and parcel of condition, but said I had also sprained my calf, don’t know how! Calf is larger but not much, for now has asked me to use heat cream or gel, together with stretches and paracetamol if needed, only single tablet no more than 4 times a day. He said if the pain increases or calf size increases much to go straight back in.

Thanks again for your note, take care

always good to have the reassurance from GP with that kind of thing......you have enough to worry about as it is!

if your sodium levels are within or slightly below normal you can try tonic water ( as in G&T without the G lol) or you can tell your GP and get some Quinine. I’m not going down the transplant route ( my choice) so I have zero percent Gordon’s and tonic lol. If you’re considering a transplant you can Not go near the 0% ! Good luck keep shuffling x

Have you tired Tiger Balm or Other warmth producing ointments or even cool gels which might give relief. Ibuprofen ointments such as Voltarol are effective but you have to be sure to stick closely to correct dose. Some people are allergic to Non steroidal anti inflammatories. Hospitals don't nornally give ibuprofen to post potransplsnt patients. Magnesium /Epsom salts in a bath are good if the pain muscular.

Thank you, Bikafella. Appreciate your guidance, very similar to GP I managed to see yesterday. Heat cream and paracetamol if needed. He thought I had also sprained my calf (don’t know how I managed, that, hardly sprinting around!!) So has also given me stretching exercises.

That’s again, read your bio, pleased things are going well. Take care.

Hi Cat-B, thanks appreciated. Definitely shuffling! Got to a GP said it’s part of condition, calf bit larger said to use gel/heat cream, paracetamol if needed but single tablet. Also (which made me laugh) thought I had sprained the calf, hardly dashing around! Tonic water good shout, forgot that! Thanks again, all the best with the 0%!!

Lol, never listen to a GP about livers or kidneys they are too complicated and specialist lol.

when I came out of hospital I had a Zimmer frame and then I got a “granny walker “( I was 51, but I didn’t care, my Irish temper wanted some to comment but all I got was encouragement, bit disappointing as I could have done with a good rant lol) I started using lamp posts or trees as my daily target and then I used the smaller stores until I finally got to Sainsbury’s and up and down each isle and back home. Then I moved to hiking poles and then nothing yippee. I’m trying to say use all the aides. Oh and don’t use any thing like with ibuprofen, voterol, aspirin. They are all banned for livers, I use arnica cream or balm my friend uses tiger balm, to be honest good old Vaseline might work xx

Thanks for response, good luck with the zero %. Wife’s into rhubarb gin and sons doing some bar work, gin is definitely in the in drink….Very similar to milk, water and now tonic water for me!!!
