HE and hospitalisation

Could anyone tell me what would be the trigger point for someone to be admitted into hospital due to an HE episode?

The care home my pal is is won’t up his lactolose as he is already on a high dose but he was struggling to have any BM’s for a couple of days but told the nurses he was. I have seen some signs of an altered state in him over the last couple of days and raised my concerns with the home but they don’t appear willing to do anything.

The previous prolonged episode lasted on and off for a year and I don’t want that happening again.

my husband has been into hospital on 2 occassions with he my husband has to take 30ml 3 times a day if he is not going he must have enemas my husband was admitted in with arm flapping slurred speech if he is like this id take them straight to a e all them toxins will build and will not get better has he a liver specialist nurse id get on to them dont let them fob u off the care home

thank you for your reply. Luckily the care home listened to me and upped his lactolose and the episode only lasted a couple of days and he is back on track again.
