Hi there. Forgive my ignorance on this subject. My husband is currently hospitalized for gallbladder issues and awaiting possible emergency surgery to remove it. He has been undergoing several tests while he has been there. The ultrasound showed large gallstones and “sludge”. Everything regarding the liver says nothing abnormal to note other than the size. It says it is enlarged at 18.8 cm. Does this mean it is a fatty liver? Or is this something else? Is this common with gallstones/gallbladder issues? Or does this indicate something else entirely? The doctors aren’t really answering his questions and just say his liver is “fine”. All the liver blood labs came back within normal range. Thanks in advance.

Problems with the gall bladder can cause liver enlargement so they may well be part and parcel of the same condition. If his liver bloods are all in normal range it doesn't sound like he's got any ongoing liver inflammation or those markers would be deranged. Hopefully he is able to have his surgery soon and get these problems behind him.

I too had the same problem with my gallbladder, but mine had caused pancreatitus in my liver. This is the lower part of the liver that gets infected by the gallbladder. Your husband sounds like the liver is irritated but not infected, and hopefully when his gallbladder is removed it will recover
