Hi Lippy,

My consultant wrote to them following an event at end of December 2018/new year 2019. I then received an appointment for 28th February, at QEHB where I was told, at the appointment, that I would be put forward for assessment.

The assessment is done in 2 visits, first is one full day the second is over two days. My first was in end of March 2019 the second about three weeks later, in April. I was told within a week I was to be put on the list, and that process took a few days, and I was informed I was live on the list at the end of

April.

I received my call on the night of 15th may and was transplanted on 16th.

The team at the QE are very good at explaining the process and keeping you informed. Once you come under their umbrella, the transplant co-ordinators hold your hand through the whole thing.

Good luck with it, and don’t be frightened. Lots of us on here have been through it and tell a positive tale.

Andy.

Heading towards 3 years now and all is good. Really wish you well with your journey. Andy. 👍🏻

I had my assessment at Addenbrooks at the start of June 2018 and had my transplant on July 11th. Almost 4 years on and still going strong. Addenbrooks look after you all the way through. My consultant at the Norfolk and Norwich hospital wrote to addenbrooks about putting me on the transplant list only a matter of weeks before I was assessed. Not sure how long it takes now but I suspect the process is still pretty fast. Good luck.

Hi Lippy, how are you doing?

My husband has just been referred to QE, so I too was wondering how long it takes.

Interesting that Andy was assessed over a couple of visits of 1 and 2 days as I have read on their website that most patients are there for 5 days, Mon to Fri. But I am most interested I guess in how long it takes from referral to being seen, so would love to hear if you have been seen yet, and how that is going.

Just trying to get my head around how to juggle getting him to several hospital trips as well as a job that takes me away from home a couple of days a week and is not always simple to just drop and run and take time off at short notice.

Hope to hear from you.

Rusty

Hi,My husband was referred last august 2021, and was seen beginning of Nov at outpatient clinic, two weeks later he was admitted for assessment as an inpatient simply because of the distance from home.

I must say in some areas sadly the care was lacking, and you will be expected to go in for a chat about the actual process.

I was told at 7pm on the Monday evening that I needed to be there at 2pm Wednesday afternoon, less than a days notice, and I wasn’t told by the staff but by husband.

I pulled on to the car park to be told the meeting was going to be cancelled due to him not having his endoscopy which was scheduled for 9 am but as of 2 pm he hadn’t had it and he had nothing to eat or drink since midnight, I spoke to the nurse in charge and told them that it wasn’t acceptable.

On his planned day of discharge they didn’t wait for me to arrive before telling him he had been declined and gave no explanation why, we had to read his discharge to find out that information. Communication was appalling between patients, nursing staff, and the different departments such as the X-ray, scans endoscopy etc, phones are also off at night and there is no way to contact the ward, it goes straight to answer machine, thank god for FaceTime.

I must say I was very disappointed in the level of care my husband received and have since complained.

I hope you get your appointments through soon x
