My husband has a CAP score of 281 and kpa 26.7. This isn’t good. However his MELD is 6 and UKELD 44 , Childs Pugh B (8)
His discharge letter from being admitted in February states he was admitted with decompensation of chronic liver disease and the fibroscan confirmed significant liver stiffness.
I understand he will have decompensated cirrhosis so don’t understand why the Meld and Ukeld scores are not higher , thank you for reading

Hello there. All these figures can be confusing, since one piece of evidence seems to suggest one thing, but another suggests something else. The UKELD score is calculated using 4 numbers, none of which are liver stiffness . The UKELD score is based on things measured in the blood that measure how well the liver is currently performing (liver function). So the lower UKELD score means that even though the liver is showing liver stiffness, it is still performing the functions expected at an acceptable level.
You can go from decompensated to compensated (and remain compensated) and hopefully someone from your medical team should be able to explain how to achieve that. All the very best to you both.
