Low Serum Globolum

Hi,

I'm actually posting on behalf of a family member who recently had an abnormal LFT result. Their serum Globolum was low at 18gl (the normal is 20-35). They have a follow up appointment with the doctor but not for a while.

Does anyone know what a lower result of this may mean?

Thanks for any insight.

Hi, if it is just globulin that is 18 and everything else is fine then I'm quite certain there is nothing to worry about. It's barely a fraction off

It’s not far from the normal range. Doctors only get excited when the bloods are way outside normal range. The LFTs need to be looked at in the round. So one test being off range is no sign of anything. The doctor is following up a slightly off test in the normal way by catching up with the patient. The fact the appointment is a way off means the doctor isn’t too bothered or otherwise they would have been booking a call immediately. I had a low red blood count once and I was being called the same day for a repeat bloods to be done and had an iron infusion within 5 days! They don’t mess around if it’s something worrying.
