Is vaping toxic in patients with Cirrhosis

Hi everyone

I have finally reached a point where I feel ready to try and quit smoking, and for the past 48 hours have been using a vape (Geek Bar, 2ml 20mg i think, legit not counterfeit!)

Just wondered if anyone could tell me whether vaping could be harsher on my liver than cigarettes, about the same or less please? I haven't found a lot of research online so I'm hoping there may be more info in our community.

All the best to you

Rich

Vaping has been proven to cause fatty liver in both animal tests and in humans plus there are still toxins involved.

Probably better to find an alternative to both your smoking and vaping.

Hope you get there,

Katie

I was actually really surprised I went 48 hours without a cigarette with this vape, until I had an anxiety attack over something unrelated and needed a cig. But then I got paranoid and started googling vapes, pretty much saw the same info that Ayrshire 🙏 shared and now I'm struggling to decide whether to stick with ciggies or vape even though I know neither are good for my liver 😩 life is so stressful!

Huge well done for wanting to give up smoking.People with liver disease are more vulnerable to infection and poor health overall, so smoking or exposure to passive smoking is not advisable. Research also suggests that smoking can sometimes increase the severity of liver damage.

Because health issues are often complex, it is very important to talk with your own doctor before starting any smoking cessation products. Your GP or liver doctor should be able to advise and support you in this.

Good luck.

Well done! I don’t normally post but wanted to say that - bloody well done! And I understand the other comment totally, Katie is the one we all look to for advise, but having been a heavy smoker for 20 years in the same “almost ready” feeling, ANYTHING you do to stop smoking is 100% better than carrying on. It does have harmful effects but if this works for you for now, I’d say do it, as I understand how hard the cravings are - worse than alcohol almost. If you treat it as a crutch and give a time limit- when your totally cig free in say 3-6 months, have in your head that caping Also has to go maybe??Anyway, just my non-medical but smokers opinion…

Apologies if it upsets anyone!

Well done x

I think you're absolutely right, having a period of time in mind like that would be a good thing to aim for to use the vape as a temporary crutch. Thank you for contributing, it's greatly appreciated :)

It's great that you're feeling ready to quit! Absoloutely grab that with both hands and don't let go 😁 I had the decision taken out of my hand last year during a hospital stay, and was given a nicorette inhilator whilst I was admitted. have a little look at them, they helped me wean off relatively easily, and thankfully I didn't find my self then addicted to the inhilator, and managed to wean off that too. That said, it's going to take some real determination when you get a craving, so stay strong 💪 it's so worth it. Best of luck 😊
