Obviously your doctor is going to discuss the results with you and explain thoroughly what this all means and then should implement the necessary follow up monitoring etc.
To help a bit with the med speak though it is basically saying that it would appear that your biopsy has confirmed the findings of your earlier fibroscan in that you have some degree of cirrhosis caused by ongoing non alcohol related liver disease . You have fatty deposits in your liver hence the 'moderate fatty change' and your biopsy reveals 'mild steatohepatitis activity' showing your liver is still under an active attack and is inflamed and this has led to fibrosis amounting to cirrhosis confirming the clinical diagnosis of cirrhosis secondary to NASH (Non Alcohol Related Steatohepatitis).
Your earlier fibroscan result of 13.9 kPa identified F4 fibrosis/cirrhosis and the biopsy has confirmed that. BUT all is not lost, at 13.9 kPa it isn't too far gone and if you able to tackle it, it may be possible to halt further damage and even reverse that done. Fibroscan reads up to 75 kPa so at 13.9 it is still relatively low (and even that figure may be falsly inflated with biopsy revealing ongoing NASH - fibroscan can't tell the difference between inflammation and actual fibrous tissue so can give a higher than accurate reading).
Have you had a read at the British Liver Trust page on Non Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease and NASH? It might give you some pointers as to things you can implement prior to getting your medical follow up, a Mediterranean style diet has also been identified as good for the treatment of NAFLD so that page may be worth looking at too.
This isn't the end of the world and you can still make huge differences and improvements to your liver, have a read at the BLT page and see if you meet any of the risk factors for NAFLD/NASH and see where you can perhaps make the lifestyle changes that can improve matters hugely.
Hi shelley, I really cannot say anything medical about the results, but I do know that feeling in the pits of your stomach when you receive unhelpful results.
If it helps my own fibroscan results did drop after I adopted healthier living habits so do not give up hope!
