So i went to my doctor yesterday and ask him if i'll be having my bloodtest this month(i have bloodtest every month since my diagnosis)and he said that i have some improvements and that i will just come back after 3 months.. He even joked me about having a drink again😂but i know i'll do it again id be dead😁

I had my ultrasound done for liver and spleen but no results yet.

I just want to ask if anyone here do smoke cigarette after being diagnosed and if it is Ok even just lighting one?

You'd be better off trying to come off the cigarettes too. They are full of toxins which your liver will need to process. Here in the UK if you were progressing toward transplant you would be advised to stop due to the risk of lung damage.

Hi Katie, thank you for responding..Sorry i didnt think about what it might cause to my other organs. I'll gotta follow all your advices😊

Merry Christmas in advance💕

Hi Ciroze

although, cigarettes may only have a small effect on a liver with cirrhosis I totally agree with Katie (AyrshireK) there are toxins and chemicals used in the production of cigarettes and apart from the risk to your lungs, throat, mouth and lymphatic system... you are placing extra work on your struggling liver when you should be doing every thing you can to help it. Everyone with liver disease has an increased risk of liver cancer.

I know you are already having difficulty with tiredness and not being able to work, cigarettes would not make that any better and may make it worse.

I know you feel bad, that your wife is working so hard and you feel helpless. She is a good woman, so you really need to do everything you can to try to improve your health. Hopefully you can get back to work, even for a few hours each week and I know that would make you feel a lot better than a cigarette.

Hi guys can I just add that I had the dreadful liver disease illness for approx 6 mths. Then I felt fine. Then I stupidly had some fags. Not loads either. The liver illness returned as a result. So smoking does have a big affect on a damaged liver.. I then went through the liver disease illness for a second time. But this time took 2 years. Once u have a scarred liver nothing toxic must be put in. I remember the liver specialist nurse saying that the toxins get into the scarring. I hope someone reads this and doesn't make the same mistake as me. 2 years is along time to be ill. Its dreadful. Deffo can't work or plan days. Up n down constantly until the symptoms fade. Be aware of these pitfalls.. As no one actually explains things correctly I found. Just expects you to understand it. Merry Xmas

Your fellow forum users are absolutely correct in advising you not to smoke. A lot of research has been done into the effect of smoking on the liver. You might want to look at this article from a hepatology journal:
