Hi I have recently been diagnosed with PBC and have been taking ursodeoxycholic acid for about 3 weeks. I have a really uncomfortable and bloated tummy. Will this side effect ease as I get used to the medication?

Any advice and tips would be much appreciated. Thank you so much in advance x

Primary biliary cholangitis. A disease of the liver. I don't know much about it tbh!

Hi Christinarose.

So sorry you've been diagnosed with PBC too. If you join The PBC Foundation you'll find all the information you need. They have a forum on healthunlocked too. Side effects often go away after a few weeks on Urso, so hopefully you'll feel better soon.

Best wishes x

Thank you so much. I will join the PBC foundation now. Xx

Hi Christinarose,You might like to try splitting the dose into 2 so take half in the morning and half in the evening. If things still don’t improve I have heard of people starting on a lower dose and working their way up to full dose gradually which lets the body get used to it, I think it would be best to speak to the Dr who prescribed it to you if you wanted to try this option though. X

Thanks so much. I will split the dose, as long as I take the full amount each day. Thanks again x

I too was diagnosed with PBC About five years ago. The Ursodiol medication took some getting used to. I split the dose so I take it about 12 hours apart. Whenever possible. It took me about six weeks, for my system to get used of the meds. I hope this helps. It’s been five years I’m still here, living life, and enjoying it. So there is life, even with a diagnosis of PBC
