I was due to have an operation on my foot on Tuesday. Have had the pre op and it was identified that my platelets are low as are my white cells. They said they would order up platelets. Upshot is the condition of my sleen which is enlarged has been an issue from day 1. I understand that this is a feature of cirrhosis. My so called consultant is nowhere to be found last directive from her was to order endoscopy and the banding of varices. I have not had any bleeds. I understand there are drugs I can take and there is a drug that would have allowed my surgery to go ahead. The upshot is my GP has gone AWOL my consultant is non existent. The surgeon refused to operate on me saying I could end up dead with sepsis and might end up with an amputation if he did. No-one had ordered platelets either. I cannot walk I think the gout I have is being caused by the diuretics I take. I am despondent feel I have nowhere to go. I have to take pain killers to walk which will be affecting my liver my attitude to that is "tough" as I need to walk. Being marginalised to the point of I feel I am being judged by them. The GP I spoke to (not mine) was the one I saw in 2015 when I asked for help with my alcohol addiction. She was horrible. Looked down her nose and sent me on my way with a lecture about the evils of alcohol. 4 years later diagnosed with Cirrhosis. Cant walk or drive. Quality of life shite. Whats the point? The irony isnt lost on me hell knows but I know morec about Cirrhosis than her. No operation sitting in theatre gowned up. Bloods taken (again) sent home after an orthopedic surgeon said my condition is worsening. Not suprised. Have requested my medical records to see if I can piece together where I am. Never felt so depressed in my life.

So sorry to hear what you're going through.

Hi Violet,

We are sorry to read how stressful things are at the moment.

Can you perhaps contact Patient Advice and Liaison (PALS) and ask them for help and support so you can access your liver consultant?

Here is a link to the NHS page on PALS and you can search for your hospital;

nhs.uk/nhs-services/hospita...

We also have a useful publication 'The Patient Charter' that details the care you should expect to receive if you are diagnosed with a liver condition in the UK;

britishlivertrust.org.uk/li...

If you are in the UK, you are welcome to call our nurse helpline on 0800 652 7330 Mon to Fri 10am to 3pm for a chat.

Take care and keep us posted how you get on, you are not alone.

Hi Violet,

Totally understand your emotions and depression as I just had a 9 day hospital stay with sepsis, needed a platelet transfusion, and had bacterial meningitis on top of my cirrhosis.

Don’t really have any advice but please know you are in my thoughts and prayers! I hope things get straightened out for your surgery and liver condition soon.
