I may sound a little cynical here, but back in the 1860s during the Victorian era, most doctors and nurses were regarded as being people of science. They went in search of answers. They asked questions like, “How” and “why”. Hero’s like Florence Nightingale, Louis Pasteur, and Joseph Lister, all searched for a greater understanding of how things worked and how they could be improved upon.
Nowadays due to time limitations doctors take shortcuts. They use different words and prefer to play guessing games. “It might be” or “It could be”. The modern-day difference between a doctor and a consultant is that a doctor knows a little bit of stuff about a lot of things, whereas a consultant knows a lot of stuff about a few things.
