Just check there isn't an underlying infection ie temperature. If you are worried speak to your liver team x

Speak to his doctors, ascites can cause issues with breathing but there is also a condition called Hepato Pulmonary Syndrome which is secondary to advanced liver disease. Probably needs checking out.

Please discuss your fibro scan sore with your own doctors who have full access to your medical history so are best placed to offer advice and guidance.

Hi! I'm not terribly knowledgeable but I know you can get fluid build up on the lungs so you ought to seek medical advice. My husband gets a wheeze when he lies down if the ascites around his tummy builds up. I think it must compress everything a bit or something.Atb

Xx

My partner has decompensated cirrhosis and ascites. He struggles with breathing. He's had a couple of xrays to check for fluid or other problems on his lungs and both were clear. Seems to be a condition that is expected.. I pressed for the checks to make sure. Its a worrying time. He has bad days and better days now. He's back on his feet after 3-4 months in bed. Tell the doctor your concerns and they'll probably get him checked out for the things mentioned by Katie above. Wishing you well 😊

Hi Terry28 - shortness of breath should be reported to his medical team or GP so they can rule out any other causes. Hope he feel better soon, Trust10

Hi Terry28In the two weeks prior to my transplant I had fluid build up on my right lung which I had 6.5 litres drained however within the space of a week I was back to square one and had to have another 6.5 litres drained.

Any problems with breathing are very serious seek help, it scared the living daylights out of me.

Good luck and stay safe.

Oddly, my breathlessness in January was not particularly lung related but led more to systemic issues going on. We learned my liver issues were progressing, which brought on portal hypertension, and led to the DX of GAVE Disease (look up watermelon stomach) which is a type of bleed. That led to severe anemia and doctors determined that I wasn't getting enough oxygen into my lungs and organs. With some help from a team of specialists, we are working on treatment of the anemia (iron pills that were upgraded to quicker iron infusions), I've been taken off Nadolol, a beta blocker that was lowering my BP into a scary range and testing showed some new autoimmune diseases. It amazes me how our bodies work and the domino effects that can impact us!
