Hi everyone - I’m hoping someone can enlighten me - I had to go for an MRI scan today and it said - liver with contrast - what does this mean ? I got diagnosed with gall stones ??? A tad confused - thanking anyone for information
Liver with contrast : Hi everyone - I’m... - British Liver Trust
Liver with contrast
Basically they've scanned your liver with constrast - contrast being the dye they would have injected into your IV to make everything stand out better.
If you've not learned much about gall stones you'll find information on the BLT page at:- britishlivertrust.org.uk/in...
Katie
It’s a dye they put through cannula I had same xx
And what do they find out from doing that huni ? I’m so nervous- I just feel like I’m not being told anything xx
I have six tumours which they say are benign and I’m due another mri by the end of this month. I just think they got it wrong with me cos of pain but bloods was okay xxx
Thank you - it’s quite alarming that we have to have this hanging over our heads - I’m not the most calm person and wish I didn’t look things up on the internet lol but I gave 2 children who need their mum 😳
I suffer with bad health anxiety so since this I’ve had every symptoms for liver cancer cos it’s all I think about I have one daughter that’s 9 year old. You will be fine why are you having a mri if you don’t mind me asking? I had a ultrasound first then had a urgent referral xx
Oh I’ve just seen gallstones probably had the mri with contrast to check for blockages ect you’ll be fine xxx
Hi huni yea I got diagnosed with gallstones after a lot of pain but when I was examined there was a lump in my stomach where the liver is so I had CT scan then I heard nothing then this referral can through for liver with contrast MRI. I’m just shocked that I’ve not been informed of anything 🤷🏼♀️
Well from what I can remember hun I know someone that was in lot of pain and he had ultrasound and found gallstones and then he had a mri as well. I know a mri is a lot better at seeing things especially with contrast did they mention if they found anything on CT I was sent on a urgent refferal within two weeks and found out it was a suspected cancer pathway they put me on so I was so scared. Where have you being getting pain? Xxx
Hi,
Here is the NHS page on MRI and there is a section on contrast MRI:

Thank you 🙏
Hi Sammy, the protocol they foll9w seems to be first an Ultrasound,》then CT,》then MRI/MRCP》 then ERCP》Then EUS. This is what I have seen anyway. If nothing conclusive is shown on one scan, you progress to the next. Originally (almost 5 weeks ago) they thought I was presenting with gallstones or a bile duct blockage as I had RUQ pain with abnormal ALT,AST,GGT and high Bilirubin with jaundice.......but no stones or blockage showed up and all organs seemed normal. I have had up to the MRCP at this stage and all bloods are heading the right way. Released from hospital after 9 days. Had follow up bloods today so will find out more on Friday. It's very hard to do but they know what they are doing and we need to learn to trust them. STAY OFF GOOGLE 🤯 ☺️
