If you have a diagnosis of liver issues and your toxin levels are too high then there is the potential risk of the development of Hepatic Encephalopathy. The usual treatments to rid the body of toxins are lactulose (a laxative which helps the patient to go to the loo 3 - 4 times daily thereby removing toxins in stools - lactulose has special properties which actually help rid the body of toxins and it isn't just prescribed for it's laxative properties). Often where HE is suspected then Rifaximin is added to the prescription. Both of these are prescription meds so should be discussed with doctor.

Milk Thistle is great for a liver cleanse.

Milk thistle is actually advised against by many hepatologists as it doesn't go through the rigorous testing and safety checks as conventional medicines and any supposed benefits are only anecdotal and not proven. A liver doesn't need any sort of a cleanse - it does that itself. The BLT who host this forum advise against any over the counter or herbal/supplemental 'remedies' unless they have been discussed with the patients doctor as some can actually prove to be more dangerous to the liver than helpful.
