Hi who has had experience of a PlureX drain for ascites due to end stage cirrhosis?
PlureX drain: Hi who has had experience... - British Liver Trust
PlureX drain
I have not actually had any experience but was regularly drained in the day unit, every three weeks for over a year.
Is this one permanently fitted, removing the need to have the regular hospital appointment?
In principle, it sounds like a good idea. After a drain, I would have a stoma bag fitted, because the drain site carries on leaking for 3-5 days. So it starts to become a bit like a treadmill.
Be interesting to see how you get on, best of luck.
Thank you. He was going in every 2 weeks but now is so frail and in hospital for HE. It is more a pallative option to get him home unfortunately.
I cam currently caring full time for my friend with end stage liver disease and renal failure. She has been going to hospital every 2 weeks for acites drainage ,around 15 litres a time .
Had permanent drain fitted last week and DN team are draining it at home 3 times a week,
She is very poorly but coping better with regular drainage .
Thank you. He has never been more than 10 L but it will save the travelling to hospital for a whole day for both of us. Best wishes.
My dad got it fitted on 29th December and has been coping well, he is 68.. was too frail to be going back n forth to the hospital apps every fortnight for drain so this was better option, he gets 2 litres drained 3 times a week.. did need to go to hospital couple weeks ago though to get more drained.. they took 16litres out that day.. he was so ill after it but has really amazed us by the fight he is putting up.. he is still ver frail though, it’s a shame but the pluryx drain defo better option in current climate..
