Hello everyone, it's been a while for me since I posted. To be honest I was pretty content with my last results about a year ago.... Afther my last check up with blood and elastography last week the Dokter told me that I progressed a step up from no fibrosis to starting fibrosis but he got multiple wrong readings. Afther that I had a talk with the hepatologist and my blood work was fine, so i asked her about the elastography and she told me because the readings where so different from each other they could not take those into account and asked me to come back in 6 months. I'm so worried that it's going the wrong direction, could the test just be wrong?
New test : Hello everyone, it's been a... - British Liver Trust
New test
Hi there - I'm assuming you a referring to a fibroscan test. The fibroscan takes 10 or more readings, and averages the results to give a single kPa number. If there are fewer than 10 sucessful readings or the Interquartile range is too high, then the results are generally considered less reliable. The interquartile range (IQR) is a statical measure of 'spread out' the results are. It's not uncommon for some results to be high if a rib or other structure gets in the way and gives a false (typically higher) reading. In summary, yes it's certainly possible the test might be wrong if the IQR is high.
I understand it must be very frustrating to have to wait 6 months for another test, but if your bloods are good then that's a promising sign.
all the best
Paul.
Hi Paul, from what I understand a elastography and fibroscan are similar. Let's hope the readings where just off, I do still suffer from ruq pain daily but I've been told this could be from fatty liver as well.
