How would you take this??

Decompensated liver Feb 2020 with ascites. Hospital outpatient drain. Just over 7 stone.

Currently 11 1/2 stone with good muscle mass. Off spirlactatone. No fluid. Ruled out pancreatitis. Portal hypertension on carvidol. Had endoscopy, small grade 1 varcie. Evidence of cirrhosis, can’t tell me how much? 7 1/2 months sober, never felt fitter and stronger. Sent an email to consultant asking about my cirrhosis,he phoned me and said, right easy for me to say but, don’t worry, thousands of people walking around with cirrhosis and don’t even know it!!

And that was that!!???

I would take it as a positive sign that your liver has stabilized, doctor is quite correct there are thousands of folks walking about with cirrhosis that they don't know about - often it sits there silently until you get serious symptoms. (My hubby was like that, out of the blue, massive variceal bleed 2012 & diagnosis of decompensated cirrhosis).

He was listed for t/p in 2014 but like you has stabilized, regained both weight and muscle mass and in the grand scheme of things is doing 'ok'. Delisted in 2015 because of this improvement.

It's a case now of keeping yourself as well as you can, keep up your good habits and it will keep your liver going. Obviously you need to keep an eye on things that might indicate it is worsening but no reason why you can't live for ages with well compensated cirrhosis.

You still need your 6 monthly scans & bloods and an endoscopy every so often (hubby has one annually as he had 42 varices banded so they need to keep a watch on that).

Keep on keeping on.

Katie

Thank you! I took it as,keep doing what your doing and also stop worrying and enjoy your life!! So much less time worrying, was a lot of that at first!! Thankfully I’ve kicked the booze, rehomed a lovely German Shepard, back at college,so time to enjoy things now,I’m very grateful that I’m able too!!!!x
